Craigslist is Safe

With recent reports of Craigslist linked robberies, buyers and sellers have grown weary of becoming a target. Here is the reality, Craigslist is an open market. The good folks and the bad folks are everywhere, not just Craigslist. You could have the same thing happen from a yellowpage or classifieds ad. Anytime you give people your information and arrange to meet you take a chance. NOT JUST ON CRAIGSLIST.

Be smart and protect yourself from bad situations. The robberies all took place at night, usually in locations with very few people. Do you think it’s smart to meet someone in the Target parking lot at night?

Out of the millions of transactions that have taken place between buyers and sellers on Craigslist, only a handful have resulted in issues. All had one common thread, the buyer or seller let their guard down and put themselves in a situation which made taking advantage of them easy.

You are about as likely to get hurt using Craigslist as you are walking down the street, riding in a car or flying on a plane. Don’t let it get in the way of all the great parts of the website and what it has to offer you as a business owner.

The story of the week should be about all the great things that have come from using Craigslist. Today a home will sell from it’s listing on Craigslist, a furniture wholesaler will deliver items purchased from his listing on Craigslist and a web designer will find a new client that will impact his financial future greatly. I’d like to see more stories about the good in Craigslist, instead of so much focus on the bad.
