Craigslist Adds 4 New "Pay to Post" Job Regions

Craigslist announced this week that they will add Chicago, Sacramento, Portland, Oregon, and Orange County, California to the growing list of cities where recruiters must pay to post job listings. The fee of $25 per post is already active in seven of the 450 regions where it operates, including New York, New Jersey, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

By instituting a fee Craigslist hopes to weed out scams and increase the quality of the jobs listed. For marketers who use the job section as a lead generation tool the new fee makes it easier to reach eyeballs with less competition but increases the cost of acquisition considerably.

I expect to see this trend continue into other growing markets. I could also see it moving into the gigs area soon in major metros.
Keep in mind lots of areas cross over the fee areas, for example you can still post job ads for free in the Inland Empire section of Craigslist, which reaches a portion of the Orange County, California workforce.
