Craigslist to Grow by 100 Cities This Week
In a podcast from the Marketers Forum at the 2006 Innovative Marketing Conference in New York Craig Newmark, Craigslist founder announced that Craigslist will roll out another 100 cities in the next week.
He does not mention exactly what cities will be included in the expansion, but he did say Salem, Oregon requested that one be added for their city. Often one city can service a bunch of smaller cities, as evident in my city, which is Orange County on Craigslist. Clearly the O.C on Craigslist can reach as far south as San Diego and as far north as L.A. This is not uncommon with whole regions being represented by a mother city of sorts.
Expansion is great for those in baby-major metros with traffic to support itself, however, I have to wonder if adding too many cities will only stand to further segment the population and dilute effectiveness. I should hope Jim Buckmaster and Craig have thought and planned for all possibilities. After all, the world is an awfully large place.
